The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Today is my one hundredth day of writing consecutively. So I wanted to write a testimony to post. I think I still have one free ‘cup’, as 750words call it, to use. So here is my first draft on it.

I have wanted to write, or journal, or whatever you want to call it for years. I have tried so many times and ways. I have had The Artist’s Way book also for years and I have started and stopped reading it and using it several times as well. Finally, I started it again and was making good headway through it, but I still was not writing every day. I was using another computer tool to store my notes. But I had no clue of how many words I was writing each time, and I am sure it was not even close to ‘three pages’ every morning.

Then I found this site. I started one hundred days ago. So today is my first big anniversary. One hundred days in a row. I am still going. That one thousand days mark does not look so ominous. I have written over one hundred thousand words in those days. My word count per day is even growing, as I have become more and more comfortable with my writing.

This is a great tool for me. There is some inner motivation to earning a badge. To keep on going. I am sure I am the only one that pays attention to my stats, but I do. Another writer tried to dissuade me from using a word count as motivation. Blah! It works for me. My next big goal is to get to fifty thousand words in one month. The thing is, the word count goal makes me consider what I am writing. I am now writing more about my feelings, my goals, my thoughts, rather than what I did the day before. And my word count grows.

I pay more attention to things during the day, making notes of things I want to write about. My writing ideas notes continue to grow. I will never run out of things to write, to say to myself. I now even have bigger writing goals.

Thanks to 750Words. Keep writing. And no, I do not have a pen you can borrow. But I have lots of keyboards!

Having written 27,411 words and completed 14 days, so far, 750 has helped me immeasurably in preparing for NAMOWRIMO 2015. My science fiction novel is the first book of a series of seven. I now have a general outline for all seven, as well as a detailed outline for Book 1 — plus big chunks done for it in early draft stage. And we’re only halfway through the month! I love this site! It’s exactly what I needed to focus my writing and challenge myself to excel at it.

This website has had an extremely positive impact on my life. While writing about just my general life and such, I quickly learned more about myself from being able to feel like I’m speaking and I’m being listened to in a sense about issues that are really personal to me, for example from writing about it I’ve been able to come more to terms with my sexuality. So thank you for making this website for allowing me to be able to express my feelings.

I’ve been looking for a way to commit to writing morning pages for years and this is one of the most useful tools to do so I have ever seen. Thank you for the opportunity to record and point and dissect every day of those pages and I look forward to using this website for years to come.

Three more days to my Flying Squirrel badge. I’m in total disbelief that I’ve completed 750 Words—and many more on most days—every day since I first found this site. It’s been a tremendous joy! And I’m very grateful for this platform. Thank you, Buster and Kellianne—and all of you beautiful people who are writing with me.

750 words has been almost therapeutic to me. Being able to put my thoughts down and leave them here without worry of anyone finding them has been so peaceful to me. I really appreciate this site being able to vent and clear my head.

I’ll be honest. There are parts of this site, that I haven’t bothered to understand. But what I know, is that every day I log on, my day is a bit better. I place all the scattered bits and parts down here, and then I’m clearer the rest of the day. I’m able to sort myself out here. I’m thankful for this site.

This is more of a suggestion note. Funny how I never fit into categories. Story of my life.
Anyway I’m back after being gone for quite a while and I’m really happy to find my old writing and my old badges waiting for me. It’ s a comfort in this uncertain world.
Since I’ve been back I’ve been doing something that makes my writing easier and better too. At the end of the day’s 750 words, when I have some writing flow and feel good about myself and the place, I write the first sentence for the next day. It’s a prompt of sorts.
Then the next day I go back to the previous day’s entry and pick up the last sentence to be the first sentence of the new day.
Works for me!

Thank you 750 Words for being my daily (nightly) brain dump, to do list, and mental health saver. I’m on my longest streak, of 245 days, and it feels grand. I’d given up daily writing for a long time, and I’m so glad that I’ve found my way back. I don’t know if I would be doing it if it wasn’t for this site!

I enjoy writing when I force myself to do it day after day and it is something I look forward to. It kind of clears my brain to work on another story of to edit one all ready written.
My writers group I belong to have noticed a difference in my writing. I have only been doing this for a little over a year. I am looking forward to bigger and better challenges.

today is my hundredth day writing in a row, which means that I will get my phoenix badge!! It is a fitting emblem considering that I was so close four years ago, and after breaking that streak and spending so many years having trouble replicating it, I am finally able to “rise from the ashes” of my missed day and emerge as a beautiful, fiery phoenix!

750 words is extremely therapeutic. Not only do I seem to write better, but I also find my thoughts are a bit more organized. I’m so thankful for a website like this that gives people a place to assess their writing in a fun and easy way.

I have been a member of this site for quite a long time, but have never been especially consistent in my writing here, I am , however, always appreciative that the site is here when I come a-lookin’ for it! I’m on a small streak at the moment—thanks for being here so that I can make it a bigger one :)

Looking back I first started using this site in 2012! So long ago, but I had done morning pages in the past and wanted something so I could easily type my morning pages since I thought it would be faster than handwriting them. It is and I still think I get the same impact, even though the artist’s way cautions against not hand writing them. I find that more I try the easier it gets to maintain a streak.

Thank you for spurring me to write all these days. These particular cups of patronage? Two more months of not making it through the monthly challenge. Ironically, I forgot a day after signing up on October 1… D’oh!
But 750 words forgives me and is there for me even when I have a fixed place on the Wall of Shame. :) Over the years, I have written over 300,000 words with this site, even if a lot of it is not on contiguous days. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

As though I have some trouble writing several days in a row, I am much more regular with my writing work than I used to be. It clears off my mind and it gives me the feeling to achieve something. I love the idea of writing a tiny bit everyday and watching the pages piling up little by little. For once, I manage to write a story!

Over the month and a half that I have been more conscientious about 750 words, my typing has gotten faster and more accurate. Yay! My next objective is to not have self-importance be the biggest wedge on the stats.

I write each day with 750 words or more. It helps with clearing my mind before I work on any stories I have already started or even thinking of something that might inspire up ahead of the road.

I have been using 750words off and on for about two and a half years. I find that my day always goes better when I take the time to do this first thing in the morning, as soon as I sit down and before I do anything else. And I often have a good idea while I’m writing. Thank you, 750words!

How has 750 Words affected me? My heart is a little broken on this 2nd day of October that my day was so busy yesterday (from 5 am till 11 pm) that I never did sit down to write, after signing up for the monthly challenge with high hopes. I wrote 2 other blog posts and numerous emails, so I have no doubt I wrote 750 words, but not here. It has come to matter to me that I take this time for myself, and I am sad when I fail in my habit. So, thank you for creating a space that has created in me a desire to do, and to do well, this daily exercise.

There is no way I would be hitting my daily word count if it was not for this site. I struggled for months to set aside writing time to work on my novel. With the help of this site and all of the cool stats and badges I am happy to report that my daily word count is a breeze. Not only do I meet it, I exceed it. I have also been able to complete all of my planning for my book by using this site. Thank you 750 words, you are my hero!!!

This would make my life so much easier! I would be able to keep it up even on the days where I am half adult, half taxi driver for my kids. Working in small chunks on my phone or my iPad would save me time at home giving me more time to play with kids or even my spouse! ;)

I started way back in 2010 and I then I barely used it. Recently I’ve come back to writing and came back on the website to realize that this place is absolutely integral to me succeeding in writing. Keeping up a streak is killer motivation, 750 words doesn’t seem to feel as insurmountable after 58 days and I’m feeling great. I beat September (Mani/Pedi here I come!) and I’m going to beat October, just in time for Nanowrimo. Watch me go!
