The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Thanks to 750 words I have been able to clear my mind of things I can’t say elsewhere. It’s awesome.

I must say that I have started writing here a few weeks back and found that I was able to write stronger and more productively. When I stopped using the site I found myself struggling with words and what to say. I really think this is an excellent site for any writer. You can start your session off writing anything you want or more detailed information for what your working on. Either way using the 750 words and often more as your goal it definitely helps with your writing. I have found many times I wrote over the 750 words and found that my writing was much better. I am back for good. Fantastic site. I even shared your Facebook information on my Facebook page. You guys rock!! Happy Holidays Everyone!!

A better mobile site

At present, the mobile site is all but unusable and I do a hell of a lot of writing on my phone. Alternatively, an Android app, because iThings are not the only things, though a lot of services seem to forget this.

Just wanted to say thanks for this site. After some fits and starts, I’m now on a 16 day streak, and it’s getting easier and easier to get motivated to write. I find just emptying my mind in the mornings leads to better thinking and writing during the day. This is perfect place for me to do it.

I picked up Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way way back in 94. I bought a special pen and a pad for my morning pages and for two whole mornings I forced myself to write three pages on legal pad. It was painful and let me tell you that pen and paper is simply barbaric. BARBARIC!

This fine app has helped me clear my mind and work through some anxieties. I am hopeful that this habit will stick, although I’m still in the formation stage at this point. Thank you!

Save Custom Metadata Prepend

I have a text file which contains my metadata categories that I copy and paste at the head of each entry. It occurred to me it would be awesome if I could save them directly into my settings here and have them automatically populated into (and prepended to) my daily entries. Thanks for the consideration!

I completed my first monthly challenge! 750words has helped me tremendously with my anxiety. I have a habit of writing everyday at night. My anxiety has significantly decreased since I starting writing everyday in mid-October. This is a great site to process your feelings. Your site has helped me so much with my mental health! I hope to become a Flying Squirrel one day!

I love badges, they’re beautiful. I’d love to have some that connected to the senses data we get, or the emotions. I often end up writing about food and drink and I’d love a (you’ve written about food and drink for 30 days) badge.

I did NaNoWriMo this year, and being able to write on this site really helped. I actually completed 50k words for my novel on November 24! Thanksgiving interrupted my flow, but it’s a new month, so I’ll start again. Thank you for this site. I’m especially grateful to the people who leave all the inspirational notes here. Thanks to Kellianne and Buster for the daily notes as well. It really keeps me on track!

A Stat Request

I would like to see an average words per day stat. Keeping it simple too like based on the total number of days you have been a member. I know it’s easy to figure out manually but I thought it might be good to see if it was available as an over stat and perhaps on the monthly view as well. I personally have set my goal to 800 words per day and plan on increasing it gradually so seeing my average words per day could act as a motivator too for those that want to write more.

Thanks!

David

I’ve written over 17,000 words since joining 750 words last month. Well, officially using my account anyway. That’s 17,000 more words than I would have written had I not joined. Why wait? I’ve been calling myself a writer for years now, but I didn’t feel like one until now. Write every day. It’s that simple!

102k for NaNoWriMo. I would never have thought it possible six months ago. But after hitting over 50k a month since June, it was an attainable goal. I seized the day, and let out a mighty yawp of triumph yesterday as I crossed the finish line.

750 Words made it easy to plan my day-to-day goals, tabulate my daily achievements and my overall word count, have yesterday’s words just a click away without cluttering my new thoughts, kept a place where i could flow between breaks at work and when I got home, a space to write to myself when I got stuck… the list goes on! (Also: the little pop-up telling me I’d passed the daily NaNo allotment was a great touch!)

Though I might not have another 100k month for a while, that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try and make it a habit. This past month proved I could excel, write decent— if raw— prose, and not get distracted even with a full time job.

The draft is not finished; I still have a whole section to write. I don’t have to tell y’all where I’m going to be drafting it. ;) Thanks again — and here’s to more success for us all in December!

I love the freedom I feel to just start writing whatever comes to mind, and then eventually veer into something that is also quite useful. 750 words really helped me complete my goals for #AcWriMo for the first time. Thanks!

I have done my words every day this year (pretty much. There were some exceptions.) It feels great. I don’t even sign up for the monthly challenge because one month isn’t a challenge anymore. I finished my NaNoWriMo entirely on here yesterday. I just wrote a reflection on it and steps moving forward. I will do all my reworking in here too. Have a blank page to fill each day is worth coming back to. Thank you for providing this service.

I’ve enjoyed all these days writing 750 words. But now I’m on to different things. I may come back…not sure yet. Over a year streak of writing has given me the knowledge about myself that I can hang in there for a LONG time. It’s been good for me and helped my writing. THANKS!

I just finished the NaNoWriMo challenge and wrote a first draft of a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. I think my 750 word writing habit made it possible. The interesting thing was that I forgot to paste my daily writing into 750 words most days so my streak went all to hell. But my writing habit did not. Thanks guys for teaching me discipline.
