The Friends & Members of 750 Words

750 Words exists because of mutual good will between the people that run this site (Buster & Kellianne) and the people who use it (you). The site wouldn't exist without the generosity, patience, and humor of everyone involved. For the first 3+ years that the site was running (Dec 2009 to May 2013), the site was free to use but with some encouragement to donate. That served us well (and most importantly, generated enough income to keep the site up), but as the site grew the need for support also grew.

On June 12th 2013, all existing users of the site were given lifetime free accounts (we hope you'll continue to donate when you can). New accounts created after June 12th, 2013 are now required to become members within 30 days after signing up in order to keep writing. Everyone will always have access to previous writings, stats, etc, even if they choose not to become members.

We're listening to your feedback and want to make sure that first and foremost, we offer a friendly and safe place for people to dump their private thoughts. I expect that we'll continue to adjust the way this all works for the near term. Thanks for being an awesome community!

Who runs this site?

Our names are Buster and Kellianne, we live in Berkeley, California with our two sons (Niko and Louie) and this is something we've built and run in our spare time.

Last month I struggled to write 140 characters in twitter. Now I write 750 words daily. I love this site and have recommended it to people at work. It helps me off load and lets me start the day with a clear head. For this I am truly grateful!

Awesome blue horse each time.

Hi, I have been enjoying my time in
I do the monthly challenges, I have been successful three times in completing a month and the awesome badge is lovely. It would be nice to have the badge to mark each month and get it again each time. At present the badge is only presented and noted the first time a month is completed. Thank you.

More badges for accomplishments

I don’t have any specific ones in mind, but I’m extremely micro-goal oriented, and having these badges really helps keep me coming back! But I’m working through them pretty quickly, too. If we had more options that appeared randomly or that gave us the chance to experiment more for them, it’d be really exciting.

Thanks for being neat! I sulked away last spring and on a whim wanted to check back on my account and was so happy to find it still alive! Have a few cups on me for all my past writing and as long as I keep on coming here I’ll be sure to cup up from time to time!

Doing NaNoWriMo on here while racing towards my 1,000 day streak on here, provokes me to finish my novel. I’ll hit 1K days next year, but I’ll get there, damn it!

Make our badges into Open Badges!

Admittedly I’m biased as I work for Mozilla, but I’d love to be able to display the badges I get here on along with my other Open Badges.

Annual Subscriptions!

Instead of 5$ a month – which is too expensive IMHO, although I gladly pay it – offer a 35$ a year subscription.

- reduced paypal transaction fees.
- improved cash flow, more money up front
- reduced churn rate for subscribers

- ???

I never really knew that only lets you save 5,000 words unless you’re a patron. And who knew that I would ever have reason to find out?

But tonight, I did. It’s November 9, 2013 and I’ve written 5,000 words for the NaNoWriMo writing marathon. And I’m not done! But I need to become a patron, so I can write more :) is the biggest reason why I do so well in monthly writing challenges. Thank you.

Okay, ouch. Missed my first day in over 250 days. But what’s worse is that I see yesterday’s completed entry in my archive? Did I get too busy at work and not upload them to 750words? SAD-FACE!

Oh, well. Time now to pay my dues for failing November challenge, pick myself up, and start over again, today, my first day writing.

Hey, cool! This is my first day writing for! Wish me luck!

I wish I knew about this site last year for NaNo WriMo. I’m utilizing it now and I just wrote more than 5000 words! I’m making up for the slacking I’ve done at the beginning of the month!
If I can do it, YOU can do it!

I’m using this site to do NaNoWriMo this year, and it’s helped me tremendously by not allowing me to go back and edit yesterday’s words written :)

I joined two weeks before I started writing here. I’ve gone around calling myself a writer, but oh dear, I wasn’t writing every day or anything like every day. I meant to be writing, of course, but I let everything else chip away at my days and next thing I’d know, poof, there went another week. Or usually more. My journal at night was the only thing getting attention, but that’s more like a record of events for me. It’s not nothing, but I needed a lot more practice than a journal page that wasn’t even legible when I was writing while tired or having come home from a party. When it was time for my writer’s group (that I co-founded, geez) to meet every third Tuesday, I’d hustle to get something done. I tried assignments, exercises, discipline, motivation; you know the drill.

I ran across at the suggestion of a website I sorta follow. I poked around and thought Hey, I’ll sign up for the monthly challenge, I’ll start on October 1, I promise! Sure, my other voice said. Sure, you will.

But I did it and I kept doing it. Every single day. It wasn’t that hard. In fact, it was easy and I enjoyed it and a bit of good writing started coming out of it. Then close to the end of the month when I saw to my surprise that it’d stuck, I signed up for the November monthly challenge. And then I thought, Goodness me, it’s time to start my memoir! and signed up for NaNo WriMo.

Who’d a thunk it? Seven days into November and I’m 14K words into my 50K NaNo goal. I’m loving this. It’s been just thirty-eight days since I began, but you know what? NOW, I’m a writer. And my writing is getting better a lot more quickly than it was when I was starting rusty every time and tortured knowing that what was in my head/heart/soul/gut was still a universe away from the page in front of me.

So this, y’all. This.

The Daily Nudge

I too am missing The Daily Nudge. The last one I received was on 11/3, just after I said in a testimonial note how much I enjoyed the beautiful rose I got when I had already written my words. I really miss that and I dearly wish it would return. Please.

Because of 750 words I continue to learn about myself, sort things out, schedule stuff that needs to be done, make lists, delve into painful situations, and generally just have a good time doing it. Thank you so very much.

For some reason this week I haven’t received my daily nudge but thankfully I have remembered all on my own. Woo-hoo!! Life is good.

As an aspiring novelist 750 Words is my go to writing spot. I can keep track of my writing each day. I am prompted to write by my daily email. It feels great to keep the streak going. I am on day 66 and I don’t want to stop. I need to write everyday. Some days I don’t know how I find the time but, I do and it makes me happy. I don’t know if I would have the same drive without this site. Thank you.

my confidence has improved so much, I find that writing a l stream of consiousness and not thinking as I write realy really helps the flow, to begin with the fact that there was no spell check put me off but have a new strategy and just keep typing till I get the spelling right and this keeps the flow. the brain is an amazing thing, many thanks for being there. am amazed that I can write 750 words in thirteen minutes, that is good, would never have believed I could do that!

In the year-plus that I’ve been trying to write every day, 750 has been an amazing blessing. Some days I journal, some days I blog or write in one of the three (!) in-progress novels and paste here, and some days I forget to write altogether. But all days, I am a different person than I was when I found this web site.

I am calmer, more centered. I spend a lot less time worrying and a lot more time outside of my head. Because of this, other things in my life are more together – I exercise more, I sleep better, I eat better – and since the first change I made was 750 Words, I trace it all back to that.

Today I wrote another chapter in my NaNoWriMo book for this year and pasted it here. I feel good. Thanks for giving me this tool, thanks for making it so easy to use, thanks for the badges that encourage me to hit new milestones, thanks for just being generally awesome!

This site, simply helps me keep my life in order. No matter how stressed I have gotten over my final year at Uni and the barrage of work that I am involved in, draining my brain in (usually) the morning keeps me level and lets me know when I am getting out of whack. Simply, brilliant. Also, I want a dinosaur in my badge collection. One day, one day…

I sometimes make typos in my metadata entries and don’t realize it till I see that my graph has a MAJOR outlier. I appreciate that the entries cannot be edited after the day is over, but it might be nice if the metadata could be.
