The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Patron Joseph Mayer

Alas, after 1018 days, the mighty flying squirrel has fallen to earth, Icarus has shed his wings to begin his quest anew. I look up to the sky and see all of them still in flight up there, the Albatrosses, Phoenixes, the Pegasi, the Space Birds, and the mighty, mighty squirrels with their thousand days behind them. And three years hence, I shall again rise up into that stratosphere of greatness and be among them again, dashing off my notes here, my recipes there, blog entries and poems and gripes about the local traffic flying from my fingers like bolts of lightning from the clouds. The quest begins anew.

One of the things I really appreciate about this site is the fact that it provides us with a toy, not with a game. Yes, I admit that there is the certain game of being able to see how many days in a row you can write, and how many words, to earn those badges. But in general, this site is more of a toy in the sense that you pretty much just do what you want with it, make it what you want it to be, set your own goals and plans, write your own rules. Want to see how fast you can get to 750 words every day? Great. See how many days in a row you can write 2000 words? Sure. Just meditate and spit out the crap that’s accumulated in your head for the past 24 hours and look back at it later and see if anything makes sense? Yep, it’ll accommodate that just fine, too.

In short, thank you to Buster and Kellianne for creating and maintaining this site. It’s become something of a habit for me, a good habit for a change, and I appreciate that.
