The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Member Lina Boatman

I’ve struggled with tough real-life issues since December began. I’ve e-mailed Kellianne twice in two weeks to restore half-entries and missed days. I’ve taken more time off recently than I have in other months combined. I thought I’d pick it back up on the 26th; at 2:00a.m. on the 27th, I realized what had happened.

My 264-day streak was broken.

I decided to let it go.

I wanted that year badge. I did. I know I could’ve made a new request and gotten it fixed right away. But that broken streak meant I’d stopped dedicating myself to something that rejuvenated my writing to begin with back in April. No matter the stress, or the holiday chaos, I realized that making time for my words was something I couldn’t skimp on, or forget, or whatever else. It brings me happiness, a feeling of daily accomplishment, and it helps me tell my stories.

Thanks to the coming leap year, I figure I’ll be unwrapping that Pegasus badge on Boxing Day 2016. I’m going to aim for that, but if I have to restart again, I’m not going to be hard on myself. I’m just gonna get back in the saddle and start ticking off the days again, one by one.

Here’s to a great and healthy year, everyone! May your fingers find gold under your keyboard, or something like that. :)
