The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from Jules Hansen

1 cup

Though I haven’t always been consistent, I have returned to 750 words again and again over the last four years, and I am grateful to have a record of my thoughts and feelings. Writing every day helps me learn so much about myself. By reading my old writing and my recent writing, I can see how much I’ve grown and how I’ve learned from my experiences. It is so cathartic to write the truth, in incomplete sentences, without inhibitions. I work in a retirement home, and most residents are older than 85- many in their 90s. One of the sharpest ladies there told me she has written daily in her journal since she was 8. She told me that she remembers everything, and what she can’t remember, she has written down. I aspire to be like her. I also fondly remember the words of a favorite high school English teacher, who taught us to free write every day. She always told us, “Keep your hand moving across the page.” Thank you, 750 words, for being an invaluable tool in my journey to better know myself.
