The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from geophf

Behavioral Badge notification?

Hey, all.

HEY! I just saw that I’ve earned the NaNo badge this month AND the Night Bat AND the Inspired Writer.

I think there are some other people on 750 that are achievement-motivated, too. That is, we adjust our writing styles/behaviors to see in which new ways we can earn goals, be it explicit from the site or self-made goals, so: two requests for this lovely site that I am very grateful for.

1. We are notified of streak badges, can we also get a notification of other (currently only behavioral) types of badges?

2. Can 750words provide a facility for self-set goals? You do a wonderful job already for providing motivation (hey, I took three years off from my novel, and now I’m writing again, and 750words is helping me stay focused) simply a) by existing b) by providing goals in the form of streak and behavioral badges and c) by providing monthly challenges with the fame/shame payouts. BRILLIANT! I think if you created an existence system that the writer herself can tailor to her style of writing, there might be an increased activity from people who are motivated by being (explicitly) rewarded.

So few of us get pats on the back (because so few of us recognize and then pat on the back our achievers), so an explicit huzzah for meeting a self-made goal would help those so motivated.

E.g.:

header: [Enter goal name] [type: w/d, days-in-streak, ave syllables/w, ave letters/w, etc]

writer fills out: [nightingale] [2000 w/d 5 days in a row]

then 750words.com tracks that and after 5 days says in the daily email: “congratulations, geophf, you’ve earned the nightingale for writing at least 2000 w/d 5 days in a row.”

This may sound daunting, but is very easy to set-up/monitor with a workflow/rule-based system.

For your consideration, and again, thank you for this site. It has done so much good for so many people
