The Good Patrons of 750 Words

A Note of Inspiration from LYNN PARK

Not until I came to 750 words was I able to do Morning Pages. The last several years I’ve gotten too caught up in my handwriting: too loose, too crabbed, too crooked—and which journal, which pen, all of which made me crazy. And sustained typing wasn’t much fun after an elbow energy.

Well, next week (if all goes well) I’ll have a 100 day streak. My mind is friendlier and more accessible to me, and my typing is smoother.

I joined this year’s National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, November) with the goal of producing a 50,000 word manuscript. I won’t make that goal, and it’s okay because I have in place the foundation for a memoir that I’m going to feel good about. I’ve captured insights in 750 Words and will be able to use certain passages as they are. I couldn’t have done it without you.

When I finish the book, tentatively titled “Celebrating This Body, This Life,” I’ll be sure to put the word out here. I’m thinking it may take up to a year to do it right: lots of fast writing, lots of rearranging pages, lots of editing. It’s all good.
